Original article (Oct. 20, 2014):
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Travelers Rest officials are seeking bids for the development of a citywide bicycle master plan.
City Administrator Dianna Turner said that with the growing popularity of cycling in northern Greenville County, the city wants to be as bicycle friendly as possible, and that includes encouraging the construction of bike greenways as more roads and housing developments are built.
To pay for the master plan, the city applied for and received a grant from the Greenville-Pickens Area Transportation Study. The grant award totals $21,783, and the city is required to provide a 20 percent match.
According to the grant application documents, the master plan would identify facilities and infrastructure needs for cyclists.
The city is accepting qualification proposals through Thursday, Oct. 30. For more information, contact Travelers Rest City Hall at 864-834-7958.
