Dr. Charles Stuart Patterson, 84 - Greenville

Dr. Charles Stuart Patterson, 84, husband of the late Anne Earle Patterson, of 105 Hathaway Circle, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2014 at McCall Hospice House.

Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Elliot and Ethelyn Long Patterson. Dr. Patterson was a graduate of Easley High School and continued his studies at Furman University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry and University of North Carolina where he earned his PhD in Chemistry. Upon graduation from UNC, he returned to Furman University where he taught Chemistry for 34 years, retiring in 1988.

Dr. Patterson was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Greenville where he served as Deacon and Ruling Elder and was a member of the Frank Outlaw Sunday School Class. He was also a Board Member with the Creation Study Group and on the Board of the Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.

Surviving are his daughters: Sue P. and James M. (Jimbo) Godwin of Bluefield, WV and Jane P. Stillman of Travelers Rest; son: Charles F. (Chuck) Patterson of River Falls; sister: Erma Atkison of Fountain Inn; brother: Truett Patterson of Johnson City, TN; grandchildren: Matthew Godwin, Stuart Godwin, Farrell Stillman and Rachel Stillman Berens; great-granddaughter: Leanna Berens.

Along with his parents and wife, Dr. Patterson was predeceased by a sister, Frances Bentley.

Committal service will be held Friday, October 31, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Graceland West Cemetery with a worship service to follow at Second Presbyterian Church starting at 11:15 a.m. The family will receive friends following the worship service at the church.

The family will be at their respective homes.
