New route announced for Slater-Marietta Christmas parade
SLATER-MARIETTA, S.C. – Organizers have announced a new route for this year's Slater-Marietta Christmas Parade, scheduled to take place Sunday, Dec. 14 beginning at 3 p.m.
Organizers said safety concerns, including the Geer Highway lineup, prompted the parade committee to make the change. The new route is about 1/4 of a mile shorter than the previous route, but it allows participants to be staged off of the highway, which can't be officially closed until the actual start of the parade.
The lineup/parade start will now take place on Slater Street. The procession will turn left onto Geer Highway and continue to Slater Road, where the entrants will turn left and travel toward Slater Hall, the official end of the parade route.
The award presentation and reception, hosted by the Bank of Travelers Rest, will take place at Slater Hall following the parade.
