Devildog cross country teams finish top in region, compete at state championship

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Coming off their recent region 3A championship wins, the Travelers Rest Devildog cross country boys' and girls' teams finished their respective seasons at the AAA State Championship on Friday in Newberry, S.C.

The boys' team finished in 4th place, with Devildogs Todd Harris placing 9th and Connor Johnston placing 10th, earning them both All-State honors. The state finish tied the team's second-highest finish ever (4th in 2015, runners-up in 2020).

The girls' team finished at the state championship in 9th place, with Preston White finishing in 5th place and receiving All-State honors.

The championship teams consisted of Devildog athletes:

Boys: Seniors Todd Harris and Connor Johnston; junior Peyton White; sophomores Philip Headley, Parker Sharp, and Caden Johnston; and freshman Jack Kyker.
Girls: Senior Morgan Glaze; juniors Zee Felder, Lillian Hollis and Laney Carson; sophomore Hanna Forrest; freshman Addie Rae Guy; Preston White (eighth-grade); and Ava Ledford (seventh-grade).

For the second year in a row, both the Devildog boys' and girls' cross country teams finished the season with top region honors, making them 4x and 3x region champions, respectively. The region championships were held in Travelers Rest on Oct. 24.

Lady Devildog Preston White and Devildog Connor Johnston both finished first at the region championship, with both also setting new records for Travelers Rest runners on the course. Six boys and seven girls from the Devildog teams claimed All-Region honors.
