Photos/Recap: Devildogs fall to Riverside in season opener

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – The Travelers Rest Devildog varsity football team (0-1) suffered a season-opening loss at home against Riverside High School (1-0) Friday night.
The disappointing start was reminiscent of last year's 66-21 loss to the Warriors, the first of head coach Michael Lancaster's coaching career.

In Friday night's game under the lights at Dean "Chico" Bolin Stadium, Riverside got on the board first, with Jaiden Taylor taking a screen pass from QB Tyskeek Breeze with 8:37 left in the first quarter.
Two subsequent, first-quarter touchdown passes by Riverside – Tyshek Breeze to Jaiden Taylor on one and Tyshek Breeze to Mikkel Skinner on the other – put the Devildogs down 21-0 going into the second quarter.

Both teams went scoreless in the second quarter, but Riverside added to their lead in the third, scoring a touchdown with another Tyshek Breeze to Mikkel Skinner completion. Travelers Rest was able to get on the board in the third quarter for the first and only time of the night, getting a touchdown on a Drew McKibben reception from Devildog QB Chase Thompson with 5:32 left, putting the score at 28-7.
Following another third-quarter Riverside touchdown pass and an 86-yard touchdown run, the Warriors were on top, 42-7, at the end of the third.

A fourth-quarter completion by Tyshek Breeze to Mikkel Skinner gave Riverside another touchdown with 6:07 left in the game. It was Breeze's sixth touchdown pass of the night, and it put the score at 49-7, where it remained until the end.
The Devildogs travel to Wade Hampton next Friday.
