Photos/Recap: Devildogs fall in Palmetto heartbreaker

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – The Travelers Rest Devildog varsity football team (1-2) suffered a heartbreaking 20-19 loss to the Palmetto Mustangs at home Friday night.

Recap:

Palmetto struck first, scoring a touchdown that was later answered by a Devildog field goal with seconds remaining in the first quarter. (Palmetto 6, Travelers Rest 3)

With 6:22 left in the second quarter, the Devildogs scored on a long pass play but failed to make a two-point conversion. Another Travelers Rest touchdown/extra point put the Devildogs on top, 16-6, going into halftime.

With 4:28 left in the third, Travelers Rest had expanded the lead to 19-6, but a Palmetto touchdown and two-point conversion put the Mustangs within striking distance going into the fourth quarter. (Travelers Rest 19, Palmetto 14)

A 32-yard Mustangs touchdown pass with 5:39 left in the game put the score at 20-19, where it remained. (Final: Palmetto, 20, Travelers Rest, 19)

The Devildogs are at home against Woodmont next Friday.
